Maoist Attack Claims Lives of 8 Jawans and Driver in Chhattisgarh

Dantewada, Jan 6 (NationPress) In a devastating Maoist ambush at the start of the New Year, eight jawans and a driver were killed following the explosion of a security vehicle in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, as reported by police sources on Monday.
The victims were traveling in a Scorpio SUV through Kutra in the Bastar region when the incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. on Monday, sources revealed.
This attack occurred shortly after the announcement by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who stated that the security forces are dedicated to eradicating Maoism by March 2026.
On the previous day, security forces engaged Maoists in the Abujhmad region of Chhattisgarh, resulting in the deaths of four rebels, including two women.
Authorities reported the recovery of automatic weapons like AK-47 and Self-Loading Rifles. Senior security officials mentioned that a search operation is ongoing at the attack site.
The recent surge in violence follows an encounter on Sunday in which four Maoists were killed in the Bastar region, along with a jawan who also died during the confrontation.
A head constable from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Sannu Karam, lost his life during this encounter, which erupted on Saturday evening in a forest within the south Abujhmaad area.
The clash began while a joint team of security personnel was conducting an anti-Maoist operation, according to officials.
Once the firing ceased, the bodies of four Maoists were located, along with recovered automatic weapons, including an AK-47 and a self-loading rifle (SLR).
Officials indicated that a search operation is in progress in the region, with more updates anticipated. This violence follows Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Chhattisgarh's Jagdalpur, where he spoke to a group of surrendered Maoists.
The Home Minister assured that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government would strive to support their rehabilitation.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to assisting those affected by the violence and called for collective efforts to eliminate Maoism from the area.
He urged them to motivate other Maoists to follow suit and surrender.
Home Minister Shah mentioned that when he was assigned the Home Ministry role by Prime Minister Modi in 2019, he believed those involved in armed conflicts should be given the opportunity to relinquish their arms, surrender, and lead peaceful lives.
