Sukma, March 1 (NationPress) - In a fierce encounter with security personnel in the Kistaram police station area of Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, two Maoists were shot dead, according to officials on Saturday.
A coordinated operation involving the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Cobra battalion was initiated after receiving intelligence reports about Maoist activities in the area.
The confrontation, which commenced early this morning, is ongoing intermittently, with continuous clashes occurring throughout the day.
An extensive search operation is in progress, as forces meticulously comb the encounter site and nearby regions to identify any remaining Maoist militants.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai commented on the active engagement, expressing faith in the relentless efforts of the state's security forces.
“Our troops have consistently achieved remarkable successes in their missions. Since our administration took charge over a year and a quarter ago, our forces have been locked in a determined struggle against Maoist factions, showcasing exceptional strength and resilience. We honor their bravery and dedication, and we are confident that, through their endeavors, we will ultimately achieve lasting peace in Chhattisgarh,” he remarked.
In February alone, over 40 Maoists have been eliminated in the Bastar region.
On February 9, 31 Maoists were killed in Bijapur, with the deceased carrying a bounty of Rs 1.10 crore.
Earlier, on February 3, a Naxalite with a bounty of Rs 8 lakh was killed in an encounter on the Kanker-Narayanpur border.
Moreover, on February 1, in Gangalur, Bijapur district, security forces neutralized at least 8 Maoists during an encounter.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah previously stated that anti-Naxal operations in the nation are nearing their conclusion, asserting that Maoism will be completely eradicated by March 2026.
