Latehar (Jharkhand), May 4 (NationPress) In a recent surge of Maoist aggression, an armed group targeted a mining survey site affiliated with Coal India’s Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) in the Latehar district of Jharkhand. The assailants set ablaze eight vehicles and machinery, including two drilling rigs, resulting in significant destruction, as reported by officials.
The incident occurred late Saturday night in a secluded forest area of Torisat village, within the Chakla Panchayat under the jurisdiction of the Chandwa police station.
Initial reports indicate that the Maoists fired shots to instill fear and subsequently ignited two drilling machines, two pickup trucks, two cars, and two heavy trucks — all of which were completely consumed by flames.
CMPDI had earmarked this site for an underground coal reserve survey, and preliminary drilling activities were ongoing. Although several workers were present at the time of the attack, no injuries have been reported so far.
The attackers reportedly lingered at the scene for about an hour before vanishing into the forest.
