Gurugram, Feb 12 (NationPress) In light of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) established following the announcement of the Municipal Elections in Haryana, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) announced on Wednesday that it has taken down numerous political advertisements, including posters, banners, hoardings, wall paintings, signage, and flags across four zones of the city.
The civic elections are scheduled for a single phase on March 2, with vote counting set for March 12.
The deadline for nomination submissions is February 17, allowing candidates to file their papers from 11 am to 3 pm on weekdays, excluding holidays.
Nominations for the Mayor position will be accepted at the SDM Court, while nominations for councillors from various wards will be collected at different government offices in Gurugram, Sohna, Manesar, and Pataudi.
On February 18, nomination papers will be scrutinized, and candidates can withdraw their nominations between 11 am and 3 pm on February 19.
Voting will occur on March 2 from 8 am to 6 pm, with vote counting commencing on March 12.
Currently, no political party has officially declared their candidates for the positions of Mayor, chairperson, or councillor. The ruling party, the BJP, is anticipated to announce its candidate list shortly, while the main opposition, Congress, is still compiling potential names.
The nomination process for the Gurugram Municipal Corporation elections started on Tuesday. However, no candidates submitted their papers on the first day.
The Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Paramjeet Chahal, and other officials were present, awaiting candidates, but no one arrived.
Balpreet Singh, Additional Commissioner and MCC Nodal Officer, stated that adherence to the Model Code of Conduct will be rigorously upheld during the Municipal Corporation elections.
"In this regard, we aim to expedite the removal of hoardings, banners, stickers, and wall paintings of political parties situated in public areas, main roads, and internal streets. We will prioritize prompt action on any complaints concerning violations of the MCC through various channels," he added.
