Shillong, May 7 (NationPress) Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced on Wednesday that Meghalaya boasts the highest budgetary allocation for the health sector when compared to other states across the nation.
He emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to the health sector despite the numerous challenges it faces. "Meghalaya has the most substantial budgetary allocation in health sector funding among all states; a significant portion of this budget is dedicated to enhancing infrastructure," he stated.
Continuing the state government's initiative to financially assist non-profit hospitals, particularly to bolster healthcare services for the vulnerable, underprivileged, and marginalized, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma presented a cheque of Rs 1 crore to Nazareth Hospital in Shillong.
During the event, the Chief Minister remarked, "Our ultimate objective is to deliver quality, efficient, and affordable healthcare to the populace, and this is where partnerships with various hospitals come into play." He also shared insights into the development and conceptualization of the Meghalaya Health Advancement Policy.
Expressing appreciation for the dedication of those in the health sector, he urged them to continue their work with passion, commitment, and empathy.
The Chief Minister further highlighted the importance of inter-hospital communication, which not only improves overall patient outcomes but also fosters collaboration among healthcare professionals.
Sr Noreen, the Administrator of Nazareth Hospital, conveyed her gratitude to the state government for the financial support and outlined the hospital's needs, particularly in acquiring lifesaving equipment and ventilators for the Emergency Trauma Unit, Maternity Care, and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The funds will also assist in the establishment of a College of Nursing with a capacity intake of 100 students annually.
