Shillong, Jan 16 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma, stated on Thursday that the state government is prioritizing the health sector by allocating the highest budget to enhance the healthcare infrastructure of the hilly region.
Sangma inaugurated the Rural Health Centre in Myriaw, located in the Eastern West Khasi Hills District, alongside Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri and Rajya Sabha MP Dr W R Kharlukhi.
He emphasized, "Our Government aims to revolutionize the sector with a 9 percent budget allocation, the largest in the nation, which exemplifies our commitment to healthcare."
The Chief Minister noted that since the National People's Party (NPP) assumed power in Meghalaya, the health sector has been prioritized, acknowledging its challenges while underscoring the significant infrastructure improvements made over the past seven years to enhance healthcare access for rural communities.
The Rural Health Centre (RHC) received funding from CMSDF, amounting to ₹38.8 Lakh, with an additional ₹38 Lakhs to be allocated. The Myriaw RHC serves 21 villages and is managed by Dr. H G Roberts Hospital, Shillong. This marks the fourth RHC operated by the hospital in the state.
Highlighting the importance of collaboration, the Chief Minister remarked that while the government fulfills its role, support from the community and organizations like Dr. H G Roberts Hospital, Shillong will foster unity in enhancing healthcare accessibility in Meghalaya.
In recognition of the contributions made by Dr. H G Roberts Hospital, the Chief Minister announced plans to provide support for the hospital's infrastructure upgrade to facilitate Laser Lithotripsy services.
