Bhopal, March 31 (NationPress) Senior BJP leader and cabinet minister in the Madhya Pradesh government, Vishwas Sarang, on Monday claimed that certain Muslim leaders are intentionally misleading their community regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill.
The Minister asserted that these leaders, who have unlawfully occupied Waqf Board's land and built structures, now face the prospect of their properties being reclaimed, prompting them to deceive the less fortunate members of their community.
"Numerous prominent Muslim leaders have illegally constructed buildings on Waqf Board's properties, and they are now leading their community members astray with incorrect interpretations of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill," Sarang stated in an interview with IANS on Monday.
Sarang (53), who serves as the Sports and Youth Welfare Minister in the Madhya Pradesh government, made these comments while addressing the protest where Muslims wore black bands during Namaz in opposition to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill.
On Eid-ul-Fitr, Muslims in Bhopal and several other regions of Madhya Pradesh donned black armbands during their prayer gatherings, symbolizing their protest against the Bill, which has sparked unrest in the state for the past two weeks.
Congress MLA Arif Masood, a key figure within the Muslim community in Madhya Pradesh, previously told IANS that Muslims will persist in their peaceful protests to voice their apprehensions.
Importantly, Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently clarified in an interview that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which was sent to a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) in August 2024, is set to be reintroduced in the current Parliamentary session. With only four days remaining until the ongoing budget session concludes on April 4, the urgency is palpable.
The Home Minister has assured that there is no need for concern regarding the proposed legislation, emphasizing that the Modi government is amending the Waqf Act in alignment with constitutional guidelines.
