In Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein urged Union Finance Minister Sitharaman to prioritize the state's crucial infrastructure needs, emphasizing its commendable track record in maintaining fiscal discipline.
This annual pre-Budget consultation meeting is conducted to gather insights from all states and Union Territories ahead of the Union Budget presentation.
The discussions revolved around the upcoming Union Budget for 2026-27, which is set to be unveiled on February 1, 2026, with representatives outlining their key priorities and suggestions.
Attending the meeting were Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, and several Chief Ministers, including those from Delhi, Goa, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya, and Sikkim.
Deputy Chief Ministers from states like Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Telangana were also present, along with Finance Ministers from various states and Union Territories.
The Budget session of Parliament is scheduled to commence on January 28 and will run until April 2.
In a recent social media update, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju noted that the first phase of the Budget session will conclude on February 13, with the Parliament reconvening for the second phase on March 9.
Rijiju emphasized that the Budget session is crucial for fostering meaningful debate and promoting people-centric governance.
It was also mentioned that President Droupadi Murmu has sanctioned the summoning of both Houses of Parliament for the Budget Session 2026 at the recommendation of the Central government.
