Chennai, Jan 31 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin, officially opened a new Mini TIDEL Park in Karaikudi, located in the Sivaganga district. This inauguration represents a significant advancement in the state government's initiative to broaden the information technology ecosystem beyond just the major urban areas.

Constructed at a budget of Rs 28 crore, the Karaikudi Mini TIDEL Park is anticipated to create job opportunities for approximately 600 IT professionals. This facility has been established under the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department, aligning with the state's strategy to decentralize IT infrastructure and deliver technology-driven employment to tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

As per a release from the Tamil Nadu government, the TIDEL initiative originated in 2000 when the former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi launched the first TIDEL Park at Taramani in Chennai. This project was instrumental in establishing Tamil Nadu as a premier IT destination in India, significantly contributing to the transformation of Chennai into a prominent technology hub.

Continuing this legacy, the state government has expedited the development of TIDEL infrastructure throughout Tamil Nadu. On February 18, 2025, ground was broken for two major TIDEL Parks: one in Madurai with an estimated cost of Rs 314 crore and a built-up area of 5.34 lakh square feet, and another in Panchappur, Tiruchirappalli, costing Rs 403 crore with a built-up area of 5.58 lakh square feet. Both projects are currently under construction.

Moreover, a 21-storey TIDEL Park in Pattabiram, encompassing a total built-up area of 5.57 lakh square feet, was inaugurated on November 22, 2024. Additionally, a new TIDEL Park is slated for development in Hosur, projected to cost Rs 400 crore and span over five lakh square feet.

The tender process for the Hosur project is currently in progress, with construction expected to commence soon. Each of the larger TIDEL projects is estimated to generate around 6,000 IT and IT-enabled services jobs.

Collectively, these initiatives are set to significantly enhance Tamil Nadu's technology ecosystem, foster balanced regional development, and fortify the state's standing as a preferred location for technology investments.
