Chennai, Feb 18 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, has officially inaugurated the construction of TIDEL parks in Tiruchy and Madurai on Tuesday.

The twin IT parks, with a total investment of Rs 717 crore, are anticipated to create around 12,000 jobs within the state.

The TIDEL Park in Tiruchy, situated at Panjapur, will encompass 5.58 lakh square feet and will be structured over six floors, developed at a cost of Rs 403 crore. Meanwhile, the Madurai TIDEL Park, located at Mattuthavani, will cover 5.34 lakh square feet, featuring a design with twelve floors, at an estimated cost of Rs 314 crore.

This initiative is part of the government's effort to promote the IT sector beyond Chennai, supporting IT, ITES, BPOs, and startups, and thereby generating employment opportunities for the local youth.

In addition to these new developments, Chief Minister Stalin also inaugurated a Rs 330 crore TIDEL Park at Pattabiram in Tiruvallur, aimed at addressing the sector's increasing demands and fostering industrial growth.

TIDEL parks were initially launched in 2000 during the tenure of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi under the DMK government. Since then, various administrations have expanded these parks to key cities like Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchy, and Madurai.

The state is also working on establishing mini TIDEL parks in tier-two and tier-three cities, such as Thanjavur, Viluppuram, Thoothukudi, and Salem, to decentralize IT growth. This expansion aligns with the state’s ambition of achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

At a separate event, Chief Minister Stalin honored nine distinguished artisans with the ‘Living Craft Treasure’ Award, each recipient receiving Rs 1 lakh, an eight-gram gold medal, a thamirapattiram (bronze plaque), and a certificate. The awardees for 2023-24 included: C. Murugesan; C. Rajagopal; R. Radha; C. Balaraman; S. Nagamuthu Achari; S. Krishnamoorthy; Hamsa Beevi; P. Krishnan; S. Lilly Mary. This prestigious accolade recognizes outstanding craftspeople over 65 years of age who have made significant contributions to their art forms.

Moreover, the Poompuhar State Awards were given to ten artisans for their contributions to Tamil Nadu’s traditional arts. Each winner received Rs 50,000, a four-gram gold medal, a thamirapattiram, and a certificate.

The awardees included: C.V. Ramakrishnan; G. Gunasundari; C. Kathan; R. Meyyar; K. Ramesh; H. Sridhar; K. Karthikeyan; B. Kalyanakumar; and K.Chandrashekaran.

Chief Minister Stalin also distributed appointment letters to four differently-abled musicians, assigning them as instructors in Tamil Nadu Government Music Colleges in Chennai and Madurai.

The appointees are V. Kamalraj (Vocals), R. Amirtharaj (Violin), G. Kumar (Thavil), and R. Suresh Babu (Flute).

The Tamil Nadu government has also provided financial support to Tamil cultural organizations outside the state.

Stalin presented cheques of Rs 50 lakh each to the office-bearers of Delhi Tamil Sangam and Chandigarh Tamil Mandram to enhance their infrastructure.

The event was attended by various ministers, including K.N. Nehru, T.M. Anbarasan, M.P. Saminathan, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, and T.R.B. Rajaa, along with Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam and senior officials.
