Chennai, March 8 (NationPress) On Sunday, Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister M. K. Stalin launched a range of civic projects and welfare programs in Kolathur Assembly constituency, totaling over Rs 45 crore.

These initiatives, executed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), the Greater Chennai Corporation, and the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, aim to enhance public services and strengthen civic infrastructure for the local community.

A notable highlight of the inauguration was the revamped Murasoli Maran Park and the Kalaignar Centenary Coin Memorial located on Perambur High Road.

Renovated at a cost of Rs 4.20 crore, the park now boasts beautifully landscaped walking paths, a musical fountain, designated yoga areas, badminton courts, children's play zones, and specialized fitness equipment for elderly users, creating a modern recreational hub for residents.

Additionally, the Chief Minister inaugurated a contemporary library and the 'Mudhalvar Padaippagam' facility in Jawahar Nagar, constructed at a budget of Rs 4.75 crore.

This two-story building is specifically designed to assist students in preparing for competitive exams and features ample reading areas, computer facilities, and dedicated study sections.

Another significant addition to the constituency is the newly launched Kolathur Modern Market complex on Paper Mills Road, built at a cost of Rs 9.30 crore.

This multi-storey market includes 74 commercial shops along with parking facilities, lifts, and modern civic amenities aimed at bolstering local businesses and supporting small traders.

To further enhance civic services, the Chief Minister also inaugurated a new school building featuring 14 classrooms, a women's gym, and a multi-purpose center housing two fair-price ration shops. These facilities, developed by the Greater Chennai Corporation, are intended to improve educational and community services in the region.

Moreover, Stalin launched upgrade works at sewage pumping stations in Kolathur, carried out at a cost of Rs 12.48 crore. This project entails installing high-capacity pumps, advanced odour control systems, and Internet-of-Things (IoT) based monitoring technology to improve wastewater management and ensure efficient sewage handling.

Later, during a separate event, the Chief Minister distributed welfare assistance to around 3,200 Muslim beneficiaries in preparation for the Ramzan season.

Support included sewing machines for 320 women to promote self-employment, laptops and certificates for students trained in accounting software, and spectacles for 200 individuals who had undergone eye screenings.

These initiatives are part of the government's broader strategy to stimulate development in North Chennai while enhancing civic infrastructure, livelihood opportunities, and welfare support for local residents.
