Chennai, Nov 13 (NationPress) On Thursday, Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister M.K. Stalin unveiled multiple welfare and infrastructure initiatives aimed at enhancing women’s health services and creating safe accommodation options for students and working women throughout the state.
During an event at the Secretariat, CM Stalin officially launched a cutting-edge Mobile Medical Service for Women, developed under the Health and Family Welfare Department. This specialized vehicle, which cost Rs 1.10 crore, is outfitted with the latest medical technology and diagnostic tools.
Authorities have noted that this service will extend crucial preventive and primary healthcare to women living in remote and underserved regions.
Following an inspection of the mobile medical unit, CM Stalin laid the foundation for 12 new Friends Hostels to be built at a collective cost of Rs 62.51 crore. These hostels will be established under the Social Welfare and Women’s Rights Department in locations including Tirupattur, Namakkal, Mayiladuthurai, Virudhunagar, among others.
This initiative is designed to offer safe, affordable housing for students, working women, and vulnerable demographics in need of institutional assistance.
During the event, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed building of the Government Children’s Home in Royapuram, Chennai. This facility is anticipated to significantly enhance living conditions and care services for children under state protection.
A poignant moment arose when a student from the Children’s Home participated via video conferencing to thank the Chief Minister for the upgraded facility, moving Social Welfare Minister P. Geetha Jeevan to tears and highlighting the social impact of the government’s initiatives.
CM Stalin also distributed appointment letters to candidates selected through the Medical Services Recruitment Board (MRB), filling 19 Skilled Assistant roles in the Health Department and strengthening critical healthcare functions.
Officials from both departments stated that these projects are integral to the government’s broader mission of ensuring inclusive welfare, empowering women, and improving access to healthcare and social infrastructure.
With these new programs, the state government aims to amplify its reach in women’s health services, enhance safety measures for women and children, and bolster the public health workforce.
