Bhopal, June 23 (NationPress) A young man from Uttar Pradesh's Lalitpur was reportedly killed by a mob after an altercation in Madhya Pradesh's capital city, Bhopal, last week, according to police reports on Monday.
The tragic event took place in the Ibrahim Ganj area, under the jurisdiction of the Hanuman Ganj police station.
The victim has been named as Yuvraj Verma.
Following the violent attack, the mob left him unconscious on the street, where he was later discovered by law enforcement.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rakesh Singh Baghel informed IANS that the victim was found lying unconscious on the side of the road.
He was quickly transported to Hamidia Hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after, as per police sources.
"The victim was found in a pool of blood. Initially, we (the police) believed his injuries were not life-threatening. Sadly, he passed away, likely due to severe internal injuries. The exact cause of death will be clarified after the post-mortem report is released," said ACP Baghel.
The police further stated that the altercation likely stemmed from an incident involving the victim's passage or a collision with the accused's motorcycle.
"Neither the victim nor the accused were familiar with one another. Their confrontation likely arose over the victim attempting to pass through. An extensive investigation is currently ongoing," he added.
When questioned about the accused, who were reportedly part of a religious procession wielding swords, ACP Baghel clarified that while they may have participated in the procession, they were not armed during the incident.
"A procession honoring Lord Ram took place late on Sunday. However, the incident transpired approximately two hours after it had concluded. Adequate police presence was ensured during the event," he stated to IANS.
Additionally, the police officer confirmed that the victim was not acquainted with the accused.
"The victim was from Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh and was visiting relatives in the Ibrahim Ganj area. Multiple police teams have been mobilized to identify the suspects, and they will face arrest promptly," he mentioned.
This incident has ignited political debate, with the Congress party raising concerns about the law and order situation in Madhya Pradesh.
State Congress Chief Jitu Patwari and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh visited the victim's family at Hamidia Hospital on Monday.
