Bhopal, Oct 12 (NationPress) In a rapid response ignited by viral CCTV footage and mounting public fury, Bhopal officials apprehended constables Santosh Bamaniya and Saurabh Arya for the brutal beating of Udit Gayki, a 22-year-old B.Tech student, which resulted in his tragic death.
In a harrowing instance of alleged police brutality, Udit Gayki, who was related to Balaghat Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Chetan Adlak, was viciously assaulted by two officers in Bhopal's Indrapuri region late Thursday night.
This incident, documented by CCTV and now widely circulated, has sparked significant outrage regarding custodial violence and corruption within the Madhya Pradesh Police.
The Madhya Pradesh Home Department communicated via its social media account on X, stating, "In Madhya Pradesh, the law is impartial, ensuring justice for all. Following the orders of Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, a murder case has been filed against two policemen linked to the death of a man from a violent police attack. Authorities have pledged that action will be taken against the perpetrators, irrespective of their rank."
The two constables, previously suspended after the footage became public, now confront serious murder charges under Sections 103(1), 115(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which address common intention and the willful infliction of serious harm.
They are expected to appear in court on Sunday through a special requisition, as the investigation ramps up with witness statements and digital forensics.
Deputy Commissioner of Zone-2 Vivek Singh updated the media on the investigation's developments, indicating that according to findings from Assistant Sub-Inspector Ajay Vajpayee, Udit and his companions were seated in a red car in Indrapuri when they were approached by the two patrolling officers. The CCTV footage revealed Constable Saurabh Arya striking Udit on the leg with a baton while pursuing him.
The initial autopsy indicated death resulted from "traumatic haemorrhagic pancreatitis due to blunt force trauma," highlighting the severity of the assault with numerous "tram track" injuries inflicted by lathi strikes.
An inquiry led by an ACP is investigating call detail records and eyewitness testimonies to uncover the full extent of the violence.
As per reports from Udit's friends, the group was returning from a casual party when their vehicle was stopped by patrolling constables near C-Sector, Indrapuri, under the jurisdiction of Piplani police station.
The constables allegedly removed Udit's shirt and repeatedly struck him against a wall with sticks, causing grave internal injuries. Udit, a final-year B.Tech student at Technocrats Institute of Technology (TIT) in Bhopal, was rushed to AIIMS, Bhopal by his friends but tragically succumbed to his injuries either during transport or upon arrival, with medical staff declaring him dead immediately.
A preliminary post-mortem report indicated that the cause of death was a pancreatic hemorrhage due to blunt force trauma to the abdomen, along with 16 external injuries across his body. The footage showing one constable holding Udit while the other repeatedly struck him with a baton has been described as "horrifying" by both netizens and activists.
