Madhya Pradesh Tragedy: Teen Takes His Life After Mother's Assault
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal/Dewas, March 21 (NationPress) A 17-year-old youth from Bhikupura village, located in the Udaynagar police jurisdiction within Dewas district, Madhya Pradesh, tragically ended his life on Saturday by ingesting pesticide.
This heart-wrenching decision stemmed from profound anguish following the alleged sexual assault of his mother in a field by Sunil Malviya, who has since been apprehended.
The incident has incited widespread outrage, resulting in violent protests, road blockades, and damage to the property of the accused, all of which underscore serious concerns regarding police inaction.
As per police statements and accounts from the family and local community, the assault occurred earlier, prompting the victim's mother and relatives to visit the Udaynagar police station on Friday night to lodge a complaint.
However, no prompt action was taken, allegedly due to the absence of a female officer, who is typically required for such sensitive cases.
Villagers and the family expressed their deep dissatisfaction with the delays, which they believe compounded the boy's feelings of despair.
On Saturday morning, overwhelmed by his grief, the teenager consumed pesticides. He was quickly taken to Bagli Hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to the poisoning on the way.
In response to this tragedy and perceived police negligence, relatives and villagers placed the boy's body on the Punjapura-Bagli road in Bhikupura, obstructing traffic and chanting slogans directed at the police.
The mob then targeted the residence of the accused, Sunil Malviya, throwing stones, vandalizing the property with hammers, and attempting to set his motorcycle on fire.
Police intervened to manage the escalating situation. The villagers demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and the demolition of his house using a bulldozer. Tensions heightened as disputes erupted between the crowd and law enforcement.
A significant police presence was deployed to restore order. Senior officials, including ASP (Traffic) Harnarayan Batham, Bagli SDOP Sanjay Singh Bais, and Udaynagar TI CL Raikwar, arrived to ease tensions.
They clarified that the case involves the sexual assault of a woman. When the family arrived at the station the previous night, a female officer of the necessary rank was unavailable, prompting one to be summoned from Bagli.
By the time the victim returned to the station, the boy had already ingested the pesticide. He was rushed for medical assistance but tragically passed away before reaching the hospital.
Police have since arrested the accused, Sunil Malviya. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate has been consulted, and the accused's property is under scrutiny for any illegal structures; appropriate actions will be taken if violations are discovered.
Senior officials have been made aware of the allegations concerning police delays.
This incident has ignited outrage throughout the region, raising critical questions regarding the prompt handling of sexual assault cases and the support available for victims' families in rural areas.
Investigations into both the assault and the boy's suicide are ongoing, with calls for swift justice to avert further unrest.
