PM Modi Champions Women's Empowerment for Nation's Development: Karnataka BJP
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 10 (NationPress) The head of Karnataka BJP and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra stated on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi embodies the essence of a "Pradhan Sevak" (chief servant) and recognizes that the contribution of women alongside men is vital for India to evolve into a developed nation by 2047.
Vijayendra reminisced about the time when B.S. Yediyurappa served as Chief Minister, highlighting that the birth of a girl in economically disadvantaged families was often regarded as a misfortune.
“Yediyurappa enlightened society to view the girl child not as a misfortune but as a ‘Bhagyalakshmi’ and initiated the Bhagyalakshmi scheme, laying the groundwork for a brighter future for these girls,” he asserted.
He pointed out that in rural regions, insufficient basic amenities compelled numerous girls to abandon their education after reaching the 5th, 6th, or 7th grade.
“Thanks to the bicycle initiative launched by Yediyurappa’s administration, many girls were able to pursue their studies,” he remarked.
Vijayendra also addressed a troubling incident in Belagavi involving a Scheduled Tribe woman who was reportedly stripped, criticizing the state government for their inaction while the Assembly session was ongoing in the same locality.
“Just 10 kilometers from Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi, a Scheduled Tribe woman faced violence in broad daylight. Yet, the Chief Minister took no action,” he claimed.
He expressed that the government has failed to build trust among women. “As the BJP state president, I visited the family and provided them with support and encouragement,” he noted.
Vijayendra stressed that awareness among women is on the rise, urging mothers to step beyond traditional roles and embrace leadership opportunities in society.
“Women today possess the resolve to advance and lead their communities, resulting in their success in various fields, including politics,” he emphasized.
He also underscored Prime Minister Modi’s dedication to women's representation, pointing out that the election of Droupadi Murmu, a woman from the Scheduled Tribe community, as the President of India is a testament to Modi's commitment.
Vijayendra stated that International Women’s Day is celebrated with significance across the nation and globally, acknowledging women's achievements while advocating for gender equality and awareness of women's rights.
He added that historically, women have been held in high regard in India, with mothers often revered as divine figures.
Karnataka, he noted, has been the birthplace of influential figures like saint Akka Mahadevi and illustrious women such as Kittur Rani Chennamma and Onake Obavva.
Prominent attendees at the event included former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, former Deputy Chief Minister and MLA C.N. Ashwath Narayan, BJP Mahila Morcha State President C.S. Manjula, MLC Bharathi Shetty, former State Secretary Bharathi Mugadum, former Mahila Morcha State President Geetha Vivekananda, former Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission Pramila Naidu, and various Mahila Morcha officials.
