Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 13 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday characterized the BJP-led NDA’s success in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation as a “turning point” in the political landscape of Kerala, emphasizing the party's increasing acceptance of its development agenda in a state traditionally governed by the Left and Congress.
The BJP-led NDA has reached the critical halfway point, securing 50 seats in the newly expanded 101-member Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, thereby solidifying its position as the largest political entity. In one ward at Vizhinjam, elections were deferred due to the passing of a candidate.
The final results indicate that the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front has achieved 29 seats, while the Congress-led United Democratic Front has garnered 19 seats. Additionally, two seats have been won by Independents. This outcome signifies a substantial shift in the political dynamics of the city, which has long been viewed as a bastion of the Left.
Following the announcement of the results, PM Modi expressed gratitude to the citizens of Thiruvananthapuram for their support, stating that the results reflect a clear sentiment that Kerala's developmental goals could only be fulfilled by the BJP.
“I extend my thanks to the people across Kerala who supported BJP and NDA candidates during the local body elections. The public is disillusioned with UDF and LDF. They perceive NDA as the sole force capable of providing good governance and creating a Viksit Keralam filled with opportunities for everyone,” he remarked.
“The mandate received by the BJP-NDA in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation is a turning point in Kerala’s political scenario,” he added.
The Prime Minister’s comments come in the wake of the BJP becoming the largest party in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, marking the first time the party has achieved such a significant milestone in the civic body of the state capital.
This result is regarded as a pivotal moment for the BJP in Kerala, a state where the party has historically struggled to transform vote share into local governance.
PM Modi emphasized that the public is convinced that the BJP's vision for development is most compatible with Kerala’s future requirements. “The people are assured that our Party is the only one capable of addressing the developmental aspirations of the State,” he stated.
Reiterating the commitment to progress, the Prime Minister assured that the BJP would strive to enhance the growth of Thiruvananthapuram and elevate the “Ease of Living” for its citizens.
“I appreciate all the diligent BJP Karyakartas who have engaged with the community, ensuring a remarkable result in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. Today is a day to honor the endeavors and sacrifices of generations of Karyakartas in Kerala, whose grassroots efforts made today’s success possible. Our Karyakartas are our strength, and we take pride in them!” PM Modi further stated.
On Sunday, the state BJP unit is orchestrating a victory procession through the capital city, showcasing all 50 winning councilors of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
