Modi recalled that Mookerjee fiercely opposed demands for two constitutions, two prime ministers, and two flags — a reference to the contentious political climate surrounding Jammu and Kashmir's special status in the post-independence era. The Prime Minister praised Mookerjee's rock-solid political resistance and his role in shaping public opinion to secure Bengal's permanent integration with India during the crisis of 1947, when, according to Modi, conspiracies threatened to sever the entirety of Bengal from the nation.

Quoting Mookerjee directly, Modi said: 'As Dr Mookerjee famously stated, the foundation of a golden future can be laid only on the ground of national unity.'

Connecting History to Present Geopolitics

Linking Mookerjee's historical defiance to modern geopolitical challenges, Modi emphasised that reflecting on those past circumstances provides vital ideological strength for navigating today's complex landscape. 'We feel the massive political willpower of that roar even today when we look at today's circumstances,' he said.
