Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, 23 May virtually distributed more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly recruited candidates across government departments and organisations nationwide, marking the 19th edition of the Rozgar Mela initiative. The event drew widespread praise from senior Union Ministers, who described it as a landmark step toward transparent, merit-based public recruitment.

Ministers Hail the Initiative

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the programme was creating meaningful opportunities for young Indians in line with their qualifications and aspirations, enabling them to contribute to nation-building. He added that the Rozgar Mela had connected the country's youth with national service through the principles of good governance, transparency, and equal opportunity, and was also instilling confidence and leadership qualities among recruits — strengthening the resolve toward a 'Viksit Bharat'.

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri described the initiative as a powerful national programme that ensured transparent, merit-based, and time-bound recruitment. Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia said India was progressing rapidly and asserted that the country's youth remained the biggest strength behind this transformation.

Startup Ecosystem and Global Partnerships

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted India's expanding startup ecosystem, noting that the country now has more than 2.3 lakh recognised startups and has become the world's third-largest startup hub. Goyal said India was also forging partnerships with countries across the world to create employment opportunities for youth and provide them with global exposure.

Transparency and Efficiency Since 2022

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh lauded the Rozgar Mela for significantly improving transparency and efficiency in government recruitment since its launch in October 2022. Singh noted that candidates recruited through the process had demonstrated a high level of merit and capability. Notably, this is the 19th such edition, reflecting the government's sustained cadence of appointment drives since the initiative began.

Government's Commitment to Youth Employment

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi reiterated the government's commitment to employment generation and youth empowerment. This comes amid ongoing scrutiny of public-sector job creation in India, where formal employment figures and the pace of government hiring remain closely watched indicators of economic policy delivery. The Rozgar Mela model — distributing appointment letters in bulk at high-visibility events — has become a signature outreach mechanism for the Centre, combining recruitment with political messaging on governance and opportunity.
