Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15 August 2025 declared that India cannot afford to lose momentum, calling the next quarter-century the most consequential stretch in the country's journey toward becoming a developed nation — Viksit Bharat — by 2047. Speaking from the ramparts of the Red Fort on India's 80th Independence Day, Modi framed the coming decades as a window that cannot be wasted.

'One-fourth of the century has already elapsed, and the upcoming one-fourth is exceptionally crucial for us. We cannot afford to pause now. Our momentum must not slow down. Our trajectory is already set, and we are determined to achieve our objective,' the Prime Minister said in his address.

Modi argued that the Viksit Bharat goal is not an abstract aspiration but is grounded in what Indian citizens have demonstrated over the past 10 to 12 years. He stressed that sustaining this ambition would require a transformed work culture, an elevated collective mindset, and a sharp acceleration in the pace of decision-making and project execution.

India's Rising Global Standing

The Prime Minister pointed to India's growing international influence, citing the country's stable political mandate, independent judiciary, and constitutional framework as pillars that the world has begun to recognise. 'Today, India is emerging in the eyes of the world as a widely accepted and respected nation,' he said, adding that these institutional strengths are now 'truly' being acknowledged globally.

This comes amid India's sustained push to position itself as a leading voice in multilateral forums, including its recent G20 presidency and its expanding diplomatic footprint across the Global South.

FTAs and the Trade Opportunity

Modi highlighted that India has finalised Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and trade partnerships with nearly 40 nations since 2014, calling it 'a monumental opportunity' that must not be allowed to slip. He specifically urged MSMEs to capitalise on these agreements.

'Look at what a massive opportunity has opened up before us! These trade agreements present a monumental opportunity. Therefore, I would especially urge our MSMEs: We must not let this golden opportunity slip away,' he said.

Coastal Communities and Seafood Exports

Notably, Modi drew specific attention to India's coastal belt, highlighting the export potential unlocked for fishing communities from Kerala to Gujarat and from Tamil Nadu to Bengal. He said FTAs have opened up significant opportunities for shrimp and seafood exports, urging coastal communities and the broader seafood sector to seize the moment and expand their global footprint.
