PM Modi's Jalandhar visit on July 17: BJP Punjab reviews rally, station inauguration
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Jalandhar on 17 July to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several major development projects across Punjab. Ahead of the visit, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Punjab President Kewal Singh Dhillon on Wednesday, 15 July, conducted an on-ground review of arrangements, including the redeveloped Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station and the designated rally venue.
Key Developments Ahead of the Visit
Dhillon inspected the event site and held coordination meetings with officials from the police, civil administration, and Indian Railways to ensure preparedness. He said the entire BJP Punjab unit and the people of the state are enthusiastically gearing up to give the Prime Minister a 'grand welcome.'
'Whenever PM Modi visits Punjab, he brings a major development gift for the state, and this visit will be no different,' Dhillon said, adding that projects worth crores are set to be dedicated to the state during the occasion.
Railway Stations to Be Inaugurated
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi is set to formally inaugurate redeveloped railway stations at Jalandhar Cantonment, Mohali, Muktsar Sahib, and Anandpur Sahib. According to Dhillon, these stations have been upgraded into what he described as world-class facilities, equipped with modern waiting lounges, free Wi-Fi, upgraded platforms, food courts, escalators, and amenities specifically designed for senior citizens, children, and differently-abled passengers.
The Prime Minister is also expected to flag off the Sant Ravidas Ji Express from Jalandhar during the visit.
Other Projects on the Agenda
Beyond the railway inaugurations, several additional projects are on the agenda. New national highway projects aimed at strengthening Punjab's road infrastructure are slated to be launched. At PGIMER in Chandigarh, new healthcare facility expansions will also be unveiled. Additionally, a new multipurpose auditorium for students at Panjab University in Chandigarh is set to be inaugurated.
This comes amid the BJP's sustained effort to project Central government-led development as a campaign plank ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, where the party is seeking to unseat the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
BJP's Political Messaging
Dhillon made the party's political intent explicit, expressing confidence that the people of Punjab would back the BJP's development agenda in the 2027 Assembly elections and that the BJP would form the next government in the state. He credited Central government initiatives as the primary driver of development currently taking place in Punjab, framing the Prime Minister's visit as a demonstration of that commitment.
The 17 July visit will be closely watched as a signal of the BJP's ground-level push in a state it has struggled to win outright in recent election cycles.
