Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Thiruvananthapuram, April 4 (NationPress) The city erupted into a spectacle of color, culture, and enthusiasm as Prime Minister Narendra Modi journeyed through the heart of Thiruvananthapuram during a dynamic roadshow that transformed the capital's streets into an electrifying political celebration on Saturday evening.
After arriving at the city airport by helicopter following a rally in Tiruvalla, PM Modi’s motorcade made its way to Killipalam, adjacent to the vibrant Chalai Market, marking the official start of the roadshow.
Even before Prime Minister Modi reached the kickoff location, countless supporters had gathered on both sides of the route, eagerly awaiting a glimpse of the leader, turning the entire area into a sea of eager faces.
The roadshow extended approximately 1.5 kilometers to Nemom, the BJP’s sole victory in the 140-member Kerala Assembly and a significant battleground this election.
The selection of Nemom was tactical, as it was here that veteran politician O. Rajagopal made history in 2016, though the party lost the seat in 2021 to V. Sivankutty.
Enhancing the festive spirit, BJP members showcased vibrant pageantry at various points along the route, highlighting Kerala’s rich cultural heritage through traditional dances and artistic expressions.
The visual display, coupled with rhythmic drumbeats and enthusiastic cheers, provided the event with a celebratory, almost procession-like atmosphere.
At the outset, Prime Minister Modi entered an open jeep, welcomed by an uproarious reception.
Joining him on this mobile stage were prominent BJP candidates from the capital district, including Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Sreelekha, former Union Minister V. Muraleedharan, and Karamana Jayan.
This roadshow also underscored the BJP's escalating aspirations in Kerala.
Having secured second place in nine seats during the 2021 elections and recently taking control of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, the party is poised to expand its influence beyond Nemom.
Party leaders indicated that the turnout on Saturday signaled a potential shift in the political landscape of the state.
Kerala is set to vote on April 9 to elect 140 new legislators.
