New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) During a recent review of the Yamuna cleaning initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi advocated for the adoption of advanced technology, reflecting his commitment to oversee the rejuvenation of the sacred river and ensure a remarkable experience for Chhath devotees.

The meeting, conducted at PM Modi's residence, also highlighted the importance of the Jan Bhagidari Movement, which seeks to engage volunteers in river restoration efforts and organize community events centered around the Yamuna.

The Prime Minister stressed the pressing requirement to overhaul Delhi’s drinking water infrastructure to minimize leakages and prevent pilferage.

It was resolved that Delhi would formulate an Urban River Management Plan for comprehensive water management, which will be integrated into the City Master Plan, as per the statement.

Officials discussed necessary actions for the river sections in Haryana, the Delhi stretch, and downstream towards the Sangam in Prayagraj.

The current status of wastewater treatment facilities and governance challenges affecting the Yamuna's quality were shared with the Prime Minister, as stated in the report.

The Prime Minister expressed that the experience of Delhi residents during the Chhath Puja festival should be enhanced.

He also highlighted the necessity to foster a connection between people and the river, instilling appreciation for the Yamuna and embedding it in the lives of urban dwellers and youth living near the river, as stated.

“This should encompass a Jan Bhagidari Movement that recruits volunteers for river restoration and public events along the river. Attention should also be directed towards the culturally rich regions surrounding Braj, incorporating the Braj Yatra into the river community initiative,” the statement noted.

The Prime Minister recommended leveraging the best available technology to collect micro-level real-time data for assessing drainage flows and monitoring sewage treatment plant operations.

Future planning and execution of pollution control infrastructure should rely on this data. The information must also be utilized to enhance governance, ensuring the efficiency of existing facilities. He further suggested the application of space technology for this purpose.

Union Minister for Jal Shakti C.R. Patil, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and other officials were present at the meeting.
