Kolkata, Sep 13 (NationPress) The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rainfall across several districts in south Bengal, including Kolkata, over the upcoming days. In contrast, heavy rainfall is forecasted for north Bengal districts starting from Sunday. According to an official from the meteorological department, a low-pressure area has developed over the Bay of Bengal, which will not directly affect the weather in West Bengal.
"The low-pressure system is situated in the west-central and northwest regions of the Bay of Bengal, close to the northern coast of Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha. Meanwhile, the monsoon axis is now positioned farther away from West Bengal, leading to a significant decrease in thunderstorms in south Bengal. Nevertheless, light to moderate rain is anticipated in the southern districts starting Sunday," the official stated.
Forecasts indicate light rain in South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Murshidabad, and Nadia. A yellow weather warning has been issued for other districts in south Bengal, excluding Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, and West Burdwan on Sunday.
Thunderstorms may occur in southern districts, including Kolkata, on Monday and Tuesday.
The weather in Kolkata will remain humid, with a chance of one or two thunderstorms later in the day.
In northern Bengal, rainfall will persist, particularly in the five districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and parts of Cooch Behar, starting Saturday evening. A yellow warning has also been issued for the remaining three districts of north Bengal. Continuous heavy rain is predicted across all northern districts until Monday.
On Friday, Kolkata's maximum temperature reached 32.9 degrees Celsius, which is 0.4 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature was 28.6 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees above normal. The relative humidity was recorded at a maximum of 88 percent and a minimum of 73 percent.
