Kolkata, Oct 29 (NationPress) As Cyclone Montha weakens, light to moderate rainfall is expected across districts in south Bengal and Kolkata on Wednesday, according to the Met Office.
The precipitation is attributed to the indirect effects of the cyclone, which made landfall on the coast of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday night.
An official from the Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore, Kolkata, stated: "Due to the after-effects of the cyclone, light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms is anticipated across several districts. The rain is expected to taper off starting Thursday. While the cyclone did not directly impact our state, the outer bands of the system impacted the West Bengal coast, leading to rainfall in south Bengal yesterday. This pattern is expected to continue today. Kolkata experienced mild rain and gusty winds yesterday."
Rain is expected in Kolkata as well as in the districts of East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, Howrah, and Hooghly, according to the official.
On Thursday and Friday, there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated locations, particularly in the western districts of Purulia, Birbhum, Murshidabad, East Burdwan, and West Burdwan. The intensity of rainfall in south Bengal is expected to decrease from Saturday, with clearer skies predicted from Sunday onward.
In north Bengal, light rain is anticipated in the districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Malda, and North Dinajpur later in the day, with an increase in rainfall expected from Thursday.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is possible in all northern districts on Friday.
Although rain is projected to diminish over the weekend, some areas in north Bengal may still experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms.
On Tuesday, the maximum temperature recorded in Kolkata was 32.9 degrees Celsius, which is 2 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature was 26 degrees Celsius, exceeding normal by 3.4 degrees.
