Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 23 (NationPress) The Alipore Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted intermittent rain across southern Bengal, including Kolkata, during the upcoming week.
According to meteorological officials, around nine districts in South Bengal are anticipated to receive light to moderate rainfall. Currently, there are no expectations of heavy rain across the state.
Kolkata is likely to see scattered light to moderate rain on Tuesday, accompanied by thunderstorms and occasional gusty winds. This forecast extends to the districts of Howrah, Hooghly, and North 24 Parganas. Additionally, Bankura may experience scattered rain starting Monday. Separate alerts have also been issued for South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, and Jhargram districts.
From Tuesday onwards, these districts are expected to witness rain along with thunderstorms, prompting the issuance of a yellow warning. The weather is predicted to remain predominantly dry for the remainder of the week.
A low-pressure system has developed over the Bay of Bengal, which is influencing the likelihood of rain in the state. Thunderstorms may also occur in northern Bengal, according to the MET official.
Some areas in the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Kalimpong might experience light rain with scattered thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday, although no specific warnings have been issued for these regions. The MET office indicated that there will be little significant change in temperatures in both northern and southern Bengal over the next week.
Last week, temperatures across Bengal have been on the rise. On Monday morning, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 20.6 degrees Celsius, which is 1.1 degrees above average. The maximum temperature in the city on Sunday reached 31.2 degrees Celsius, 0.7 degrees higher than normal.
On Monday, no district in South Bengal recorded a minimum temperature below 17 degrees. In Salt Lake, located on the outskirts of Kolkata, the minimum temperature was noted at 21 degrees Celsius. However, the maximum temperature is expected to increase further.
