Kolkata, April 9 (NationPress) After receiving rain overnight, the Met office has forecasted further rain and thunderstorms for Kolkata and the southern districts of Bengal throughout the day and into Friday.

The Regional Meteorological Centre situated in Alipore has indicated that an axial line extends over Gangetic West Bengal, originating from Telangana.

This phenomenon is causing a significant influx of moisture from the Bay of Bengal, leading to frequent thunderstorms.

Following the thunderstorms on Wednesday, Kolkata and other parts of south Bengal have experienced four consecutive days of squalls paired with moderate rainfall.

The Met office has also predicted scattered rain in Kolkata today, which could potentially disrupt the IPL match scheduled at Eden Gardens between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants.

There’s an expectation of scattered rainfall across several districts in south Bengal on Thursday and Friday, with winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour alongside thunderstorms.

Areas likely to experience rain include East Midnapore, Howrah, Hooghly, Jhargram, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Kolkata, and West Midnapore.

According to a Met department official, "The rain and thunderstorms are set to persist for two additional days due to the current weather system. After that, dry conditions will return, resulting in a temperature rise across the state."

Weather conditions are expected to improve starting Saturday. Some districts may see scattered rain on Monday and Tuesday; however, Kolkata and its neighboring areas are likely to stay dry.

The intensity of rainfall is predicted to lessen in north Bengal, although conditions remain favorable for scattered rain throughout the week. By the end of the week, temperatures could increase by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius, but there are no heatwave warnings in effect until at least mid-April.

Overnight rain has caused the temperature in Kolkata to drop to 21.3 degrees Celsius, with the maximum expected temperature remaining below 30 degrees Celsius.

Point of View

It is evident that the weather forecast for Kolkata and south Bengal indicates significant rainfall and thunderstorms in the coming days. The potential impact on local events, such as the IPL matches, highlights the importance of staying informed about evolving weather patterns.
