Kolkata, March 8 (NationPress) The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) located in Alipore, Kolkata, has predicted the likelihood of thunderstorms and rainfall across the entire state, including Kolkata, starting from Sunday evening.

The Meteorological Office noted that even with the expected thunderstorms, the temperature is anticipated to remain relatively stable over the upcoming week.

The forecast indicates that areas such as Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, and North 24 Parganas may witness sporadic light rain along with gusty winds on both Monday and Tuesday. However, no distinct warning has been issued for these regions.

Rain alerts are currently active for South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia districts. These areas are expected to experience rain accompanied by thundershowers in the coming days, with winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.

In North Bengal, thunderstorms are predicted to persist throughout the week, with light rain and thunderstorms likely in every district. Specific warnings have been issued for the Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Jalpaiguri districts from Sunday until Tuesday.

Warnings are also in effect for Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts from Monday to Wednesday. The minimum and maximum temperatures in North Bengal are expected to remain unchanged over the next week.

The RMC has indicated that a cyclonic circulation is present over Odisha and surrounding areas, extending its axis through Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and north-west Uttar Pradesh. This system has generated favorable conditions for thunderstorms in Gangetic Bengal.

As of Sunday morning, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 23.9 degrees Celsius, which is 2.2 degrees above the normal range. The maximum temperature on Saturday was 31.4 degrees Celsius, 1.6 degrees below normal. The sky is expected to remain partly cloudy throughout the day, with the possibility of scattered light rain later in the evening. The relative humidity levels were noted at a maximum of 96 percent and a minimum of 55 percent.

The anticipated maximum and minimum temperatures for the coming days are estimated to be around 32 degrees and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively.
