Damoh, Jan 24 (NationPress) In a heartbreaking incident, the lifeless bodies of a mother and her infant son were found in a well located in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district on Saturday, according to officials.

The local police and district administration have initiated a thorough investigation to uncover the details surrounding this tragic event.

As per police reports, the incident transpired in municipal ward number 1 of the Tendukheda area. The well, under the jurisdiction of the local civic authority, was where the bodies were discovered floating.

The tragedy is thought to have occurred late on Friday night, but it only came to light on Saturday morning when a municipal worker spotted the bodies and notified the police.

Responding promptly to the alert, police arrived at the scene and, with the aid of local community members, retrieved the bodies and sent them for a post-mortem examination.

The deceased individuals have been identified as Jayanti Kewat (35) and her six-month-old son, Devansh Kewat.

Initial investigations indicate that Jayanti had previously lost two children, which had reportedly led her to experience health issues over the past few years.

Jayanti, a resident of Jharoli village in Damoh, had recently returned to her parental home in Tendukheda to participate in the ‘terahvi’ (a post-death ritual) of her brother, who had passed away just days earlier.

According to Damoh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDOP) Archana Ahir, local residents reported that Jayanti was last seen at her home on Friday evening. After her absence raised concern, a search was conducted, leading to the grim discovery in the well.

“The investigation is ongoing. The bodies have been recovered and post-mortem examinations are complete. Further inquiries are being conducted to establish the precise cause of death,” the SDOP stated.
