Jammu, Feb 24 (NationPress) Rajni Bala, the mother of Uday Bhanu Chib, who leads the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) nationally, expressed her outrage over the arrest of her son by the Delhi Police. This arrest was related to a shirtless protest at the India AI Impact Summit, where she questioned, "when did protests in our nation become labeled as a conspiracy?"

In an interview with IANS, Rajni Bala stated, "He was taken into custody yesterday. I find it perplexing that protesting in our nation is being deemed a conspiracy. Since when did we lose the right to protest against government actions that are unjust?"

She continued, "If an individual wants to advocate for the youth and citizens, they have every right to protest. The Constitution grants us this entitlement. Where is the supposed conspiracy in this situation?"

Addressing the claims made against her son, she remarked, "Many are suggesting that Uday Bhanu orchestrated this. As the Youth Congress President, it is assumed that everything occurs under his direction."

She further noted, "All members work collaboratively, taking suggestions before organizing protests. I am baffled as to why the Union government is reacting so personally to the shirtless protest." As reported, a Delhi court has placed Uday Bhanu Chib in police custody for four days following his arrest connected to the protest during the India AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam.

Chib was presented in the Patiala House Court after his earlier arrest. The investigative agency requested seven days of custodial interrogation, claiming that Chib was the "primary conspirator and mastermind" behind the event.

In contrast, his defense team opposed the extended custody, while the prosecution asserted that custodial interrogation was crucial to unveil a broader conspiracy.

After considering both arguments, the Patiala House Court granted four days of police custody for further inquiries.

According to the arrest documentation, Chib is accused of being the key figure in organizing an unlawful assembly on February 20 at Bharat Mandapam during the AI Summit and Expo 2026, where it is alleged that anti-national slogans were shouted, and there were attempts to provoke a riot-like scenario.

Point of View

The arrest of Uday Bhanu Chib raises significant questions about the nature of protests in India. Are legitimate expressions of dissent now being misconstrued as conspiracies? This situation underscores the importance of upholding constitutional rights while navigating political tensions.
