Bhubaneswar, Jan 17 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, expressed optimism that the state will significantly gain from the recent signing of MoUs with Singapore across various sectors such as green energy, semiconductors, and green hydrogen.
During a press conference following the MoUs exchange, attended by the President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, CM Majhi stated: "Today, we have finalized 8 MoUs with the Singapore government covering sectors like industrial parks, green hydrogen corridors, PCPIR, new city plans, green energy, fin-tech, future skilling, and semiconductors. This initiative will enhance bilateral trade, business, and commerce between Singapore and Odisha. Additionally, Odisha stands to greatly gain in terms of skilling, cutting-edge technologies, semiconductors, and more."
CM Majhi remarked on the immense potential for collaboration between Singapore and Odisha.
He mentioned that since the new state government took office, efforts have been made to lure investments in various sectors including industry, IT, petrochemicals, port-based industries, green energy, and green ammonia.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that multiple roadshows have been conducted both in India and internationally, inviting investors to the upcoming 'Utkarsh Odisha: Make-in-Odisha Conclave 2025', set for January 28 and 29.
"While visiting Singapore to attract investors, discussions were held with the Singaporean government, which expressed keen interest in investing in Odisha. We also extended an invitation to the President of Singapore to visit Odisha," CM Majhi added.
The Chief Minister reiterated his belief that the state will see an influx of investments following the MoUs with the Singapore government.
The Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) signed an MoU with Sembcorp, Singapore, to develop an Industrial Park.
Furthermore, the IDCO established two additional MoUs with Sembcorp and Surbana Jurong of Singapore for the creation of a Green Hydrogen Corridor and a Petrochemical and Petroleum Investment Region (PCPIR), respectively.
Another MoU was concluded between the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Surbana Jurong, Singapore for the development of a New City.
Likewise, an MoU was signed between GRIDCO, a government entity of Odisha, and IIT Bhubaneswar with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) from Singapore for collaborative research and development on Green Energy.
Additionally, MoUs were exchanged to enhance the FinTech Ecosystem, improve advanced skilling, and develop skills within the semiconductor sector.
President Shanmugaratnam praised Odisha's initiatives in advancing skill development and promoting innovation.
CM Majhi presented a memento and shawl to Shanmugaratnam as a token of the lasting partnership between Odisha and Singapore.
It is important to note that Shanmugaratnam arrived at Bhubaneswar Airport on a two-day visit to Odisha on Friday. His itinerary includes a visit to the renowned Konark Sun Temple and other significant sites before departing for Delhi on Saturday.
