Bhopal/Indore, May 20 (NationPress) In a profound tribute to Adi Shankracharya, the esteemed Indian Vedic scholar, philosopher, and proponent of Advaita Vedanta, the Madhya Pradesh government has sanctioned a substantial budget of Rs 2,100 crore for a development initiative in Omkareshwar centering around his statue.

According to Kailash Vijayvargiya, the state Urban Development Minister, "This project is designed to facilitate scholars in their pursuit of a deeper comprehension of Hinduism and Sanatan culture."

He further elaborated, "Similar to the success of Mahakal Lok in Ujjain, which has seen a tourist surge of 30-40 times and significantly increased the per capita income of Ujjain residents, our efforts in Omkareshwar will invigorate the local economy and tourism sector."

Following a cabinet meeting held in Indore on Tuesday, the cabinet authorized the funding, and the project is set to commence shortly, as indicated by the minister.

The revered Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have studied under Govindapada along the banks of the Narmada River in Omkareshwar, as suggested by various texts. The development project includes several pivotal elements: the Shankaracharya Museum, the Acharya Shankar International Institute of Advaita Vedanta, and the Advaita Forest.

The museum will showcase a 3D hologram projection gallery, nine exhibition galleries, an IMAX theatre, and a cultural boat ride, providing visitors with an immersive glimpse into the life and teachings of Adi Shankaracharya, as noted by the minister.

The Advaita Vedanta Institute aims to promote the study of Advaita philosophy, facilitating academic inquiry and discussion.

"This initiative is poised to transform Omkareshwar into a vital religious and cultural tourism hub, with the highlight being a towering 108-foot-tall statue of Adi Shankaracharya, which has already been erected," the minister remarked.

Unveiled on September 21, 2023, the Statue of Oneness is located on Mandhata Island in Omkareshwar.

Crafted by artist Vasudeo Kamath, the statue is inspired by Raja Ravi Verma's portrayal of Adi Shankaracharya as a 12-year-old and is constructed from metal sourced from over 23,000 gram panchayats across India.

Elevated on a 75-foot platform, the statue's grandeur is further complemented by the development of a 36-hectare Advaita Forest aimed at creating a tranquil space for meditation and ecological awareness.

This green area is anticipated to attract both spiritual seekers and environmental advocates. The overarching vision includes integrating Omkareshwar into a broader tourism circuit, connecting it with other religious towns in Madhya Pradesh.

The government's investment in this venture highlights its dedication to preserving and promoting India's spiritual heritage while enhancing tourism and local economic growth.

Officials are optimistic that this project will significantly elevate Omkareshwar's status as a pilgrimage site, attracting visitors from across India and beyond.

With generous funding and ongoing construction, the Oneness project is set to emerge as a landmark of cultural and spiritual importance, solidifying Madhya Pradesh's reputation as a hub for religious tourism and philosophical education.
