Bhopal, Dec 19 (NationPress) More than 38 lakh voters are expected to be removed from the electoral roll as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative approaches its conclusion in Madhya Pradesh, an official reported on Friday.
The deadline for wrapping up the SIR process is December 23.
Joint Chief Electoral Officer Pratap Singh Janod informed IANS that over 65,000 Booth-Level Officers (BLOs) have successfully conducted a thorough door-to-door verification of voters.
Janod noted, “The essential digitization of enumeration forms is currently being finalized.”
The official mentioned that a comprehensive review of eligible voters will take place once the final draft is prepared by December 23.
“More than 38 lakh voters are anticipated to be omitted from the 2023 voters’ list,” he stated.
Preliminary checks have shown that over 8.4 lakh voters listed in the 2023 electoral roll have passed away.
“Additionally, over 8 lakh voters were recorded as absent during the door-to-door verification conducted by BLOs,” he added.
Furthermore, Janod mentioned that more than 22 lakh voters have relocated from their registered addresses, while around 20 lakh voters are deemed ineligible for various reasons.
The final report will be disclosed once the digitization process concludes.
It is noteworthy that the Election Commission of India has prolonged the timeline for the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across five states: Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, extending beyond the initial deadline of December 11.
Since November 4, over 65,000 BLOs have been engaged in door-to-door verification of voters, with more than 6.65 crore voters registered in Madhya Pradesh for the year 2023.
