Claims of Rs 14.50 lakh crore investments questioned.
Calls for transparency from the state government.
Demand for a 'White Paper' on MoUs.
Concerns over rising unemployment despite claims.

Mumbai, Jan 21 (NationPress) The head of the Mumbai Congress committee, Varsha Gaikwad, expressed her disapproval regarding Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' visit to Davos for the World Economic Forum summit, labeling it a superficial “show” and a misuse of the state’s funds.

During a press briefing, Gaikwad highlighted that although the state government claims to have inked Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) valued at Rs 14.50 lakh crore with the objective of generating 15 lakh jobs, the legitimacy of these agreements raises questions.

She pointed out that many key contracts were made with companies headquartered in Mumbai. “These firms have offices in Mumbai, some located just a short distance from the Mantralaya,” Gaikwad noted. “If these companies are already in Maharashtra, what was the purpose of traveling to Davos to sign these MoUs? This is nothing but 'Eventbaazi' and a way to deceive the public using their own tax money.”

While she clarified that the Congress party is not against industrial investments, Gaikwad stressed the importance of transparency.

She remarked that similar claims of Rs 16 lakh crore in investments were made during last year’s Davos trip, yet the tangible benefits remain elusive.

“If such significant investments and job opportunities are genuinely forthcoming, why is the unemployment rate not declining? The government needs to clarify the discrepancies between their claims and the reality,” stated Gaikwad.

The Congress MP has called for the state government to publish a 'White Paper' outlining how many of the previously signed MoUs have actually been executed. It should also disclose the real amount of capital that has entered the state and the precise number of jobs created from these international engagements.

Gaikwad maintained that unless the government provides a comprehensive report on past commitments, these annual visits to Davos will continue to be perceived as a staged performance rather than a sincere attempt at fostering economic growth.

Point of View

This situation reflects broader concerns regarding political transparency and accountability. The Mumbai Congress's stance highlights the urgent need for clarity in government dealings, especially when public funds are involved. As we navigate these discussions, it is essential to focus on the facts and ensure that the public is informed about the real impact of such high-profile events.
