Mumbai, April 15 (NationPress) The NESCO drug party incident in Mumbai has taken a shocking twist as investigators delve into the criminal history of the family of the primary suspect, Anand Patel.

Authorities revealed that he is the offspring of purported 'ration mafia' leader Lakhan Patel, who has been implicated in numerous serious criminal activities in the Kalyan-Dombivli area.

Police sources indicate that a variety of severe charges have been filed against Lakhan Patel at multiple police stations in Kalyan and its vicinity.

These allegations include infractions under stringent legislation such as the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act.

This disclosure has sparked intense discussion within the Kalyan-Dombivli community, where locals have expressed outrage over the family's alleged criminal connections. Residents in Anand Patel's neighborhood, Mohan Heights, voiced their astonishment, stating they were already shocked by his connection to a drug case and are now further taken aback by his father's past.

Kalyan's Deputy Commissioner of Police, Atul Zende, noted that Lakhan Patel's operations primarily involved the illicit marketing and smuggling of ration grains supplied by the government.

Records indicate he was involved in misdirecting food supplies meant for underprivileged sections of society and selling them at inflated prices in the open market.

Officials mentioned that due to the extensive nature of his operations, he had previously faced action under the MPDA Act, which resulted in his detention. Additionally, he and his associates have been charged under MCOCA for orchestrating an organized racket related to the illegal trade of ration supplies.

Investigations have revealed that Lakhan Patel allegedly established a vast network for the illegal distribution of ration items, which included transport vehicles, storage facilities, and a web of accomplices.

He is also facing allegations under Sections 420 and 406 of the Indian Penal Code, alongside violations of the Essential Commodities Act, including charges of fraud, criminal breach of trust, and obstructing government officials.

Authorities have highlighted instances where officials from the Supply Department were reportedly threatened when they tried to take action against him. The Thane Crime Investigation Department and Zone-3 Police have conducted several raids on his warehouses, confiscating substantial amounts of rice and wheat valued in lakhs of rupees.

Police records indicate that the majority of cases against him have been reported at the Kolsewadi, Bazarpeth, and Khadakpada police stations. Authorities added that additional information may surface during the ongoing interrogation of Anand Patel.

The NESCO drug party case itself is being investigated rapidly, with authorities exploring potential wider connections and networks.

According to Mumbai Police, the incident occurred during a music event on April 11, raising significant concerns regarding drug use at public events.

Reports indicate that approximately 15 to 16 students from a well-known college in Mumbai participated in the event, during which two individuals lost their lives.

During the investigation, it was discovered that one of the deceased had ingested ecstasy pills while traveling to the venue in a cab and later consumed another pill at the concert. Medical findings confirmed that taking two doses resulted in a fatal overdose.

Authorities suspect that the second death is also drug-related, with both victims believed to have used narcotic substances.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials anticipate further revelations regarding the extent of the network associated with the case in the coming days.
