Bhubaneswar, Feb 3 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the pivotal role universities play as catalysts for inclusive growth, innovation, and social transformation during her address at Fakir Mohan University's convocation ceremony in Balasore, Odisha.

She noted that the advancement, security, and technological enhancements of every segment of society are integral to the nation's progress. "Every university in the nation bears significant responsibilities in this regard. They are tasked with fostering inclusive growth, innovation, and social transformation. By promoting critical thinking, ethical leadership, and research that tackles both local and global challenges, institutions of higher education can craft a sustainable, equitable future anchored in human values," she stated.

President Murmu expressed optimism that Fakir Mohan University would significantly contribute to these aims through its academic vision and community outreach. She acknowledged the university's prioritization of research and outreach initiatives alongside academic pursuits, highlighting the Balasore-Bhadrak region's reputation for producing paddy, betel leaves, and fish.

She applauded the university for its research and training programs in these industries.

In her congratulatory remarks to the graduating students, Murmu asserted that their knowledge, enthusiasm, and dedication could earn them respect and recognition within society. She encouraged them that no matter where they go or what they undertake, commitment is the key to success.

Furthermore, the President distinguished between a successful life and a meaningful one, stating that while success is commendable, a meaningful existence holds greater importance. She stressed the need for fame and financial security, but also urged individuals to contribute positively to society.

Murmu called on students to support those who have been marginalized in the development process, emphasizing that societal progress depends on the advancement of all.

“India boasts a rich tradition of knowledge. Our ancient scriptures and manuscripts contain profound wisdom. Beyond literature and poetry, they also encompass insights in fields like science, medicine, astronomy, and architecture. Young scholars can delve into this heritage. By connecting historical knowledge with contemporary understanding, students can influence both their futures and that of the nation,” she added.

Highlighting the insights of the esteemed Odia poet and social reformer Fakir Mohan Senapati, known as Vyasakabi, Murmu reaffirmed the significance of the mother tongue as emphasized in the National Education Policy-2020, which encourages students to remain linked to their cultural roots.

While honoring Vyasakabi, Murmu shared her personal connection to his renowned narrative, 'Revati', which profoundly impacted her during her educational journey. This influence, she noted, remains etched in her memory, epitomizing a girl's determination to pursue education in the 19th century.
