Ex-servicemen Rally in Nagaland Honors 33 War Veterans

Kohima, Feb 12 (NationPress) A significant ex-servicemen rally honoring veterans from the Armed Forces and Assam Rifles representing Nagaland and Assam took place at Bhagat Stadium, located in Rangapahar Military Station, Dimapur on Wednesday.

In attendance were over 1,300 ex-servicemen, including 33 war veterans who served in the 1962 Indo-China War, 1971 Indo-Pak War, and 1999 Kargil War.

High-ranking officials from the Armed Forces, the state government, and various ex-servicemen associations participated in this grand event, which also welcomed 16 Veer Naris and four Veer Matas.

Hosted by the headquarters of Spear Corps, the rally's objective was to honor ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, widows, and their families while addressing their welfare needs.

Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Spear Corps, served as the chief guest, joined by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

In his speech, Lt Gen Pendharkar recognized the sacrifices and contributions of veterans and their families, underscoring their ongoing role in society after retirement.

He reiterated the Armed Forces' commitment to their welfare and urged veterans to utilize the various assistance programs available.

The senior Army official also pointed out the importance of Sainik School Punglwa in Nagaland and encouraged ex-servicemen to enroll their children, highlighting the scholarships offered to students.

Chief Minister Rio expressed profound gratitude to the veterans and Veer Naris, acknowledging their sacrifices and steadfast commitment to the nation. He emphasized that their selfless service has not only protected the nation but has also served as an inspiration for future generations.

Recognizing the challenges faced by veterans and their families, he assured them of the state government's ongoing commitment to their welfare.

Rio highlighted various initiatives and government schemes aimed at supporting ex-servicemen, including financial aid, health insurance, and pension benefits.

He stressed that special arrangements have been made for their children's education, especially through scholarships and reserved seats in professional courses.

Rio urged veterans to fully leverage these programs to ensure a secure future for their families. He also praised the Armed Forces and Assam Rifles for providing free recruitment coaching for Naga youth, enhancing their prospects in defense services.

He encouraged young people to explore a military career, emphasizing that serving in the Armed Forces embodies the highest form of patriotism.

The Chief Minister assured attendees that the state government would persist in collaborating with the defense forces to offer better career opportunities for aspiring soldiers from Nagaland.

Addressing the concerns faced by Veer Naris and war widows, Rio pledged unwavering government support in tackling their issues. He highlighted the significance of empowering them through skill development programs and financial aid, enabling them to lead dignified, independent lives.

He reaffirmed the government's commitment to working closely with the Armed Forces to guarantee that ex-servicemen and their families receive the respect, support, and care they deserve.

The rally also featured welfare assistance counters to address pension-related issues, medical checkups, legal aid, and financial planning support.

Special medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walking sticks, and hearing aids were distributed to veterans, Veer Naris, and war widows.

Numerous war veterans, gallantry award recipients, and Veer Naris were recognized during the event, which also included cultural performances and a display by a military band.
