Triple-engine sarkar after local body polls: Chandrababu Naidu
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday, 11 October declared that the state will have a 'triple-engine sarkar' once the upcoming local body elections conclude, building on what he described as an existing double-engine alignment between the Centre and the state government. Naidu made the remarks while virtually inaugurating a house-title distribution programme in Nellore.
The 'Triple-Engine' Pitch
"We have a 'double-engine government' at both the Centre and the state. A 'triple-engine government' will be formed after the upcoming local body elections," Naidu said, urging voters to elect leaders who work with integrity, honesty, and selflessness. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief framed the local elections as the final tier needed to complete the governance alignment — Centre, state, and municipal — under a single political umbrella.
Notably, for these municipal elections, the state government has introduced a system for the direct election of Mayors and Chairpersons, a structural change Naidu cited as a step toward greater local accountability.
Housing Rights and Welfare Push
Naidu formally inaugurated the distribution of permanent house titles to 939 families across 22.31 acres of land in the Sarvepalli constituency in Nellore. The state government is granting permanent rights to poor families who have built homes on government lands and have lived there for decades.
Of the 939 total beneficiaries, 701 are women — a figure Naidu presented as evidence of the government's commitment to women's empowerment. The land covered in this distribution is reportedly valued at approximately ₹600 crore.
Separately, Naidu revealed that the state government has already handed over land worth ₹52,000 crore to 60,000 families across Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Mangalagiri.
Infrastructure and Governance Claims
The Chief Minister outlined the scale of ongoing expenditure, stating the government is spending approximately ₹30,000 crore to provide tap water connections to every household in Andhra Pradesh, and around ₹1.80 lakh crore on infrastructure across towns and villages.
"Before the elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and I promised to rebuild the state; we have demonstrated our commitment to that promise during our 28-month tenure. We have ushered in an era of good governance alongside welfare and development," Naidu said.
Fourth Term, Double the Energy
Serving as Chief Minister for the fourth time, Naidu said he is working with double the speed and enthusiasm compared to his earlier tenures. He maintained that the TDP-led coalition government's overarching goal is to ensure security, self-respect, and asset ownership for the poor and middle-class families of the state.
With local body polls now on the horizon, the ruling coalition appears set to test whether governance messaging around housing, infrastructure, and direct mayoral elections translates into a decisive sweep at the grassroots level.
