Nashik, July 28 (NationPress) - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended a Railway engineer in Nashik for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a vendor who supplies packing materials, an official reported on Monday.
Vijay Chaudhary, a Senior Section Engineer in charge of Quality Check at the Traction Machine Workshop of Central Railway, was arrested following a complaint lodged by an official of the vendor company.
The complaint indicated that Chaudhary had demanded an improper benefit of Rs 15,000 for issuing a Quality Check Report concerning the supply of wooden packing wedges related to a Purchase Order.
Upon receiving the complaint, the CBI established a trap and caught the Senior Section Engineer in the act of demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 15,000 from the vendor.
Following the arrest, searches were conducted at both the official and residential premises of Chaudhary, resulting in the discovery of incriminating documents, as per the CBI's statement.
In a separate incident, a lab technician from the health department in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was charged by the CBI for utilizing a forged document to secure employment.
Dipak Kumar Das acquired the position of Laboratory Assistant in the Department of Health Services, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, using a diploma certificate in Medical Laboratory Technique (DMLT) issued by the Institute of Medical and Technological Research (IMTR), Calcutta.
The CBI's investigation revealed that the requirement was to present a certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), but Das submitted a DMLT certificate instead. The inquiry further established that the West Bengal State Council of Technical Education did not issue any certificate for Das.
Thus, Das's actions prima facie indicate a violation under section 471 of the IPC, which pertains to the use of forged documents as genuine. A formal case is expected to be filed against him, according to an initial CBI report.
