Navjot Kaur Sidhu Launches Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Party Following Congress Expulsion
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, April 7 (NationPress) In a significant political shift, Navjot Kaur Sidhu has unveiled her new political party, the Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Party, merely two months after her ousting from the Indian National Congress due to alleged anti-party actions.
Her husband, Navjot Singh Sidhu, a former minister, remains affiliated with the Congress, although he has been relatively politically inactive lately.
This announcement, made late on Monday, is particularly notable as it arrives just months before the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections scheduled for early next year, hinting at a possible fresh competitor in the state's political arena.
On social media platform X, Navjot Kaur Sidhu shared a picture prominently featuring the name of her newly-established party, indicating that this was the “much-anticipated announcement”, suggesting that preparations for this new venture had been in the works for quite some time.
“The much-anticipated announcement; we have been diligently crafting a new alternative at the national level after thoroughly assessing the current performance standards of political leaders. Our commitment is to devote our lives to our country, providing the public with what they truly deserve and expect from us,” she stated.
Expounding on her aspirations, she emphasized that this new political platform seeks to restore Punjab's historical prestige and values.
“We will guide Punjab towards reclaiming its long-lost glory as a Golden State, where love, sharing, justice, liberty, freedom, and purposeful selfless service reign. A government truly for the people, by the people, and of the people of Punjab,” she added.
Navjot Kaur Sidhu, who previously secured the Amritsar East Assembly seat on a BJP ticket in 2012, departed from the party citing dissatisfaction with the BJP-SAD coalition and a perceived lack of democratic processes.
She joined the Congress alongside her husband before the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections and has been openly critical of the party's leadership in recent times. She sharply criticized the Congress, claiming that “one who offers a suitcase of Rs 500 crore” becomes the party's chief ministerial candidate.
Moreover, she noted that her husband would only re-enter active politics if offered the Chief Minister position, further straining their relationship with party leaders.
