New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) The NCC cadets delivered an impressive horse show on Sunday as a highlight of the Republic Day Camp held at 61 Cavalry Ground in Delhi Cantonment.
At the conclusion of the national-level inter-directorate NCC equestrian events, DG NCC Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh awarded trophies to the leading participants.
The award for Best Rider (Joint) was bestowed upon Under Officer Ansh Karnawat (Rajasthan Directorate) and Junior Under Officer Vadlmudi Lokesh (Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Directorate), according to a statement.
In the girls' category, the Best Rider accolade was given to Sergeant Bhumika Kanwar (Delhi Directorate), while the runner-up position was secured by Under Officer Swarnika Rathore (Rajasthan Directorate).
This year, a total of 40 Senior Division and 20 Senior Wing cadets from across the nation participated in the equestrian competition.
The Dr Roop Jyoti Sharma Trophy for the Best Tent Pegger was awarded to Senior Under Officer Harshit Singh (Uttar Pradesh Directorate).
The DG RVS Trophy went to Sergeant Vatandeep Singh (Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh Directorate).
DG NCC Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh emphasized that training in equestrian and horsemanship offers the cadets thrilling experiences, fostering essential traits like resilience, discipline, patience, and endurance that benefit them in various life aspects.
This event was complemented by a captivating band performance from the cadets of Mizo High School, Aizawl.
Speaking to the media, DG NCC revealed that the NCC currently manages 294 horses to train cadets and develop skills such as coordination, strength, discipline, confidence, resilience, and unwavering sportsmanship.
The NCC has 20 riding units across 12 NCC directorates to provide ample opportunities for cadets to excel in the sport.
Cadets undergo rigorous training year-round in the NCC Remount and Veterinary (R&V) units to hone their horse-riding capabilities.
In 2024, cadets participated in various regional equestrian competitions, achieving five gold, four silver, and one bronze medal, with three cadets qualifying for the Junior National Equestrian Championship, as per the statement.
