New Delhi, July 16 (NationPress) - Following the request for clarification from the key NDA ally, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) regarding the contentious Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral polls, senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari announced on Wednesday that this move signifies a potential fracture among NDA allies, hinting at a looming opposition against what he termed a "serious threat" to democracy.
Tiwari's comments were made shortly after the TDP presented a comprehensive four-page document to the Election Commission of India (ECI), raising questions about the motives and consequences of the ongoing SIR process.
“This issue transcends mere administration. It poses a significant risk, a threat to democracy. The alleged misuse of the ECI by the BJP appears aimed at dismantling established voter bases to usher in dictatorship through deceptive means. This is akin to the murder of democracy. I predict that more allies of this government will step forward to voice their concerns,” Tiwari stated in an interview with IANS.
In response to Lok Sabha's Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi's recent outreach to the family of a deceased 20-year-old college student from Balasore, Odisha, who tragically took her own life following alleged police negligence concerning her sexual harassment case, Tiwari expressed gratitude for Gandhi's compassionate act.
“Let’s be clear - this was not a suicide; it was murder by a failing system upheld by the BJP. This young woman sought justice from every level of authority but was met with silence. The BJP must be held accountable. Those who choose silence will not be forgiven by God,” Tiwari emphasized.
He further criticized BJP MP Nishikant Dubey for bringing up Operation Blue Star, accusing the ruling party of attempting to shift focus from their current inadequacies.
“Just yesterday, the US President claimed he mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Are we in such a weak position that our soldiers must withdraw at another nation's behest? The silence from PM Modi is profoundly troubling. Trump has made similar claims 23 times. Why is our Prime Minister silent? What secrets lie behind this silence?” Tiwari questioned.
Regarding the upcoming Parliament monsoon session, Tiwari indicated that Congress plans to raise numerous critical issues. “What happened to the perpetrators of our 26 soldiers in Pahalgam? Has any action been taken? Did the US pressure lead to the halt of Operation Sindoor? These are pressing questions. The manipulation of the voter list in Bihar is a direct assault on democracy. The External Affairs Ministry must clarify why India stood alone during Operation Sindoor.
Additionally, he mentioned that Congress would be holding a joint strategy session with other members of the INDIA bloc to finalize a unified agenda.
“This struggle is not merely political; it’s a fight for the preservation of democracy. And we are not alone in this battle,” Tiwari concluded.
