Will the NDA Achieve a Significant Victory in Bihar?

Synopsis

Key Takeaways

  • Arun Sao's confidence signals strong NDA support in Bihar.
  • Internal strife within the Mahagathbandhan poses challenges.
  • PM Modi's visit may enhance NDA's appeal and visibility.
  • The election battle is intensifying with strategic maneuvers from both sides.
  • Voter sentiment seems to favor development over propaganda.

Raipur, June 20 (NationPress) Chhattisgarh's Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao expressed strong confidence on Friday that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is set to regain power in Bihar with a substantial margin in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

In an interview with IANS, Arun Sao stated, “The trajectory of progress in Bihar today reflects the transformative leadership of the NDA. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bihar has undergone a remarkable transformation in both development and governance. Those who once exploited and devastated the state are now apprehensive as the voters are favoring progress over propaganda.

He also praised the Centre's proactive foreign policy and swift actions during global crises.

“Whether it was the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the COVID-19 pandemic, or the current tensions involving Israel and Iran, the Modi-led government has continually ensured the safety of Indian citizens abroad.

“The 'Operation Sindhu', aimed at evacuating Indians from Iran, is already in motion, showcasing the government's dedication to every Indian, whether residing domestically or internationally,” Sao remarked.

Meanwhile, political instability persists within the Mahagathbandhan alliance. With Assembly elections slated for October–November, disputes over seat-sharing have started to emerge.

This coalition, which includes the Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and Left parties, appears to be divided on critical issues such as candidate selection and the choice of a chief ministerial candidate.

The Congress has not publicly supported RJD scion Tejashwi Yadav as the alliance's CM candidate, raising concerns of a deeper internal conflict.

In a move likely to influence the political landscape, PM Modi is set to undertake a two-day visit to Bihar, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh on June 20–21. He is anticipated to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate several development projects in Siwan, followed by a public address.

As the election fervor escalates, Bihar is gearing up for an intense political showdown, with both the NDA and the opposition honing their strategies for a critical contest.

Point of View

The situation in Bihar presents a compelling narrative of political evolution. While the NDA showcases confidence in its achievements, the opposition is grappling with internal discord. This electoral battle will be a defining moment, not just for Bihar, but for the broader political landscape in India.
