New Delhi, Jan 8 (NationPress) The NDMC Smart City is actively considering innovative approaches to manage and recycle plastic waste. They are exploring a proposal that would allow citizens or offices to request doorstep collection of plastic waste via the 311 app. This waste would then be processed at a facility in the National Capital Region (NCR) to generate revenue for the civic agency, according to an official.

NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal stated that the civic body is receptive to all feasible strategies aimed at enhancing plastic waste management.

"NDMC is keen on learning and exploring creative solutions that can advance plastic waste management. We have established zero-waste colonies, and there is potential for further improvement in plastic waste recycling or disposal," Chahal remarked, reinforcing the agency's commitment to achieving a Net Zero Carbon Emission target.

He emphasized that to fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Viksit Delhi, Viksit Bharat,” NDMC is dedicated to elevating innovation.

“We can implement various solutions for repurposing plastic waste. Collection and sorting can be conducted together or through other methods using the 311 app, thereby preventing hazardous plastic waste from being dumped in landfills or incinerated in waste-to-energy facilities,” explained Sushil Aggarwal, whose organization is pursuing collaboration with NDMC.

“Our proposal is inspired by the vision articulated by Prime Minister Modi, highlighting that technology serves as a bridge between the government and citizens, fostering transparency,” Aggarwal added.

He noted that his company’s plastic recycling units located throughout the Delhi NCR, including Ghaziabad, could support NDMC’s initiatives to manage plastic waste and generate income for the civic body.

“While burning plastic emits carbon dioxide, recycling or repurposing plastic at our facilities produces no harmful emissions,” Aggarwal stated, pointing out that one kilogram of mismanaged or incinerated plastic generates up to 2.5 kilograms of CO2-equivalent gases.

During the NDMC Budget presentation on Wednesday, Chahal mentioned that the civic body is in the midst of transforming itself into one of the most advanced municipalities in the nation regarding sustainability and self-sufficiency.

“We aim to create a New Delhi that exemplifies modernity, sustainability, and civic responsibility—a benchmark set by Prime Minister Modi,” he declared.

Aggarwal highlighted that the concept of aiding civic agencies in managing plastic waste aligns with the Prime Minister's recommendations during the G20 discussions to focus on eliminating plastic pollution as part of the Delhi Declaration.

“By recycling cement plastic sacks and other low-value plastic waste, we can help realize the Prime Minister’s vision,” he noted, referencing the Delhi Declaration’s focus on sustainable lifestyles and the reduction of single-use plastics.

Aggarwal further stated that his company is forming partnerships with civic agencies nationwide to conduct pilot projects showcasing the effectiveness of its app-based model for plastic waste collection and recycling, aimed at creating value from waste without harmful emissions.
