Neemuch, May 30 (NationPress) The Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) 2.0 was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to improve water accessibility for agricultural lands, increase the cultivable area with guaranteed irrigation, and enhance on-farm water use efficiency.
This scheme, which advocates for contour trench technology, has shown remarkable success in conserving water and recharging groundwater.
The positive impact is evident in three villages within the Neemuch district — Danta, Kundaliya, and Bhagori. It has led to transformative changes in farmers' livelihoods.
Previously, rainwater would simply run off, but now it's effectively absorbed into the ground thanks to contour trenching. This development has not only elevated the water table but has also established an efficient irrigation system.
Numerous villagers shared their experiences with IANS regarding evolving agricultural methods that have helped them tackle water scarcity while achieving good yields.
Farmer Mukesh Dhangar noted that the contour trenches have significantly raised the water levels, enabling the cultivation of three to four crops.
"Farming was previously hampered by water shortages, but now we can collect water through farm ponds and trenches. This initiative is a true blessing for farmers," he expressed.
Another farmer, Dinesh Nagda, remarked, "Thanks to this scheme, water is accessible year-round. Previously, hand pumps would run dry, but now they function until the rainy season arrives."
Babu Singh Chauhan from Vasaniya village and Sarpanch representative Chetan Gurjar commended the program, stating that it has enriched the entire Panchayat area with water.
Aman Vaishnav, the Chief Executive Officer of the Neemuch District Panchayat, indicated that barren lands are now turning green.
"Plant species like acacia and khair are being planted around the contour trenches to enhance greenery naturally," he shared.
An additional significant advantage of this project is its resolution of the drinking water crisis, especially during summer months. Water is retained in structures like trenches and check dams, helping to maintain groundwater levels, thus ensuring water availability even in the hot season.
