The district administration of Mauganj, Madhya Pradesh, visited the family of NEET aspirant Akanksha Chaturvedi on Friday to offer condolences and assure them of full government support, as the case drew national attention amid a widening political storm over alleged irregularities in the medical entrance examination.

Collector's Visit and Assurances

Mauganj Collector Sanjay Kumar Jain travelled to Manganiya village to meet Akanksha's bereaved family in person. He described the incident as 'deeply tragic' and pledged that the district administration would stand by them through the difficult period. Chief Executive Officer Mehtab Singh Gurjar, Additional Superintendent of Police Vikram Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate A.P. Dwivedi, and other senior officials accompanied the Collector during the visit.

Collector Jain directed officials to remain in constant contact with the family and ensure that any eligible government assistance reaches them without delay. 'The loss of a child is an irreparable tragedy for any family. The district administration is with the family and will provide all possible support,' he said.

What Happened to Akanksha Chaturvedi

Akanksha, a resident of Mauganj district, was reportedly preparing for the NEET examination in Nagpur, where she allegedly died by suicide earlier this week. The precise circumstances of her death are under investigation by the Nagpur Police. Mauganj Superintendent of Police Virendra Jain confirmed that local police had no jurisdictional role in the case. 'The matter is under investigation by Nagpur Police. No offence related to the death was registered in Mauganj,' he said.

Political Controversy and Congress Response

Her death has ignited a sharp political debate, with the Indian National Congress linking the tragedy to the stress allegedly caused by the NEET paper leak controversy and broader concerns over irregularities in the examination process. The case drew further national attention after Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi personally spoke to the deceased's family. The Congress also announced financial assistance for the family.

This comes amid a period of intense scrutiny of the NEET-UG examination process, with students and opposition parties across the country raising concerns about the integrity of the test. Critics argue that systemic failures in examination conduct have placed an unfair and often devastating burden on aspirants.

Appeal to Students Under Stress

Collector Jain also used the occasion to appeal directly to students facing examination-related stress, urging them to seek help from family members, teachers, and counsellors. He emphasised that challenges can be addressed through dialogue and support, rather than despair.

As the Nagpur Police investigation continues, all eyes will be on whether authorities at the state and central level take concrete steps to address both the immediate grievances of Akanksha's family and the larger systemic concerns around the NEET examination process.
