Chennai, March 18 (NationPress) The remains of seven pilgrims from Tamil Nadu, who tragically lost their lives in a road mishap in Nepal, have been transported to New Delhi, as confirmed by Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L. Murugan, on Wednesday.
Speaking to the press at Chennai International Airport, Murugan reported that the bodies arrived in the capital on Wednesday, with efforts underway to repatriate them to their hometowns in Tamil Nadu for last rites.
The deceased were traveling as part of a pilgrimage group when the accident occurred on March 14.
Out of the victims, four hailed from Pollachi in the Coimbatore district, while the other three were residents of Chennai.
Murugan highlighted that the Indian Embassy in Nepal acted swiftly in response to the accident, orchestrating rescue operations and ensuring immediate medical assistance for the injured.
“The Embassy provided all necessary support and facilitated the process of returning the bodies to India,” he added.
Regarding the injured, Murugan noted that four individuals suffered serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment. Additionally, three others with minor injuries are expected to be discharged from a hospital in Kathmandu later today.
The Union Minister also mentioned that he contacted officials at the Indian Embassy immediately after being informed of the incident. “I reached out to the Embassy authorities right away. They assured me that they were taking measures to transport the bodies to Delhi and assist those affected,” Murugan stated.
Authorities are now collaborating to ensure the seamless transfer of the remains from Delhi to Pollachi and Chennai.
