The brutal attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists and left many others severely injured, occurred on Tuesday in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, where heavily armed terrorists emerged from dense forests and opened fire on tourists indiscriminately. This incident has been labeled one of the most horrific in the region's recent history.
Preliminary intelligence reports indicate that the Pakistan-based terror group The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
In response to the gruesome event, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have heightened alert levels. Security has been increased at vulnerable locations, and additional forces have been deployed throughout the valley.
