Chennai, March 9 (NationPress) A Jan Aushadhi Kendra was launched in Jayankondam of Ariyalur district, Tamil Nadu, this past weekend to offer affordable and quality medicines to the community.

This marks the second Jan Aushadhi center in the Ariyalur district, bringing joy to local residents. They are enthusiastic about the establishment of yet another pharmacy that provides generic drugs at significantly lower prices compared to private pharmacies.

A few beneficiaries shared their appreciation with IANS, expressing thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this initiative, which they believe will greatly assist them in reducing their medical expenses.

One beneficiary, Santhana Krishnan, highlighted that a medication priced at Rs 2,000 in other pharmacies is available for merely Rs 600 at the Jan Aushadhi Kendra.

Another patient, Bala, who suffers from heart issues, praised the low-cost medicines, noting that a medicine costing Rs 1,000 elsewhere is available for just Rs 230 at the center.

Raghu Raman, a medical officer, commended the initiative, stating that the generic medicines offered at the center meet the needs of most individuals, particularly in Tamil Nadu.

He acknowledged the Central government’s commitment to delivering affordable medicines with minimal profit margins.

Last year, the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) achieved a significant milestone, with Jan Aushadhi medicines worth Rs 1,000 crore sold during 2024-25.

Currently, there are 14,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras operating across the country, serving as accessible locations for quality healthcare, where individuals can find the medications they need without the burden of high costs.

Plans are underway to set up 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across India in the next two years. This expansion aims to empower communities and improve healthcare access, especially for underserved populations.
