Hyderabad, Sep 30 (NationPress) Senior IPS officer V. C. Sajjanar officially assumed the role of the Police Commissioner of Hyderabad on Tuesday, emphasizing that his primary focus will be on combating cybercrimes and economic offenses.
During his inauguration at the Integrated Command Control Centre, he highlighted that the safety of women would also be a significant concern.
Sajjanar, a 1996 batch IPS officer and former Police Commissioner of Cyberabad, expressed his ambition to elevate Hyderabad to the status of the top city in the nation.
Before taking on his new responsibilities, he performed a puja, accompanied by the chanting of Vedic hymns by priests who also offered their blessings.
Prior to his new appointment, Sajjanar served as the Managing Director of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC). On his final day in that role, he opted to travel like an ordinary passenger on a city bus, paying for his fare via UPI and engaging with fellow riders.
“After leading TSRTC for over four fulfilling years, it’s time for me to step off this bus and embark on a new path. Journeys may pause, but forward is the only direction. My heartfelt thanks to the drivers and conductors - the backbone of TSRTC - and all the officers and passengers who kept the service moving. Public transport is more than just travel; it’s a commitment to a sustainable future. I will always champion this cause,” Sajjanar later shared on 'X'.
Sajjanar takes over from C. V. Anand, who has been appointed Chief Secretary of the Home Department.
During his tenure as Cyberabad Commissioner, Sajjanar gained national attention following the encounter of four suspects linked to the horrific gang-rape and murder of a woman veterinarian in 2019.
